Our Curriculum: The Lavinia Group

Students in the Indy Summer Learning Labs program engage in 90 minutes of daily literacy instruction focused on foundational reading skills, vocabulary, comprehension, and fluency, along with 75 minutes of math instruction emphasizing conceptual understanding, procedural fluency, and problem-solving. The Lavinia curriculum is a 5-week, standards-aligned curriculum that is culturally relevant and designed to provide teachers with engaging, interactive lessons that make learning enjoyable and impactful. Students will complete both a pre-assessment at the start of the program and a post-assessment at the end to measure their academic growth and progress throughout the five weeks.

Why Attendance Matters

Regular attendance is essential for your child to get the most out of ISLL here’s why:

  • Consistency Leads to Progress: Just like during the school year, consistent attendance ensures that your child builds on their learning day by day. Missing even a few days can disrupt their learning flow and impact their pre and post-assessment academic growth.

  • Skill Retention: Summer learning loss is real! By attending regularly, your child will retain critical reading and math skills and be well-prepared for the next grade level.

How can you support your child’s learning?

Families play an impactful role in ensuring their child’s success in the ISLL program.

Here’s how you can help:

  • Encourage Attendance: Regular attendance is vital! Ensure your child attends every day to make the most of the program.

  • Ask About Their Day: Take a few minutes each day to ask your child about what they learned in ELA and Math. This reinforces their learning and helps build their confidence.

  • Practice at Home: Read together or practice math problems at home. These small efforts can have a big impact on your child’s academic growth. Check out these tips from Lavinia Group
