Aja Huerkamp
Biography
Aja Janet Huerkamp is a passionate teacher and educational leader with over two decades of experience fostering student growth and supporting teacher development. Aja graduated from Indiana University in 2003 with a degree in Elementary Education, specializing in Children's Literacy. She began her career at Washington Township Schools, her alma mater, where she excelled as a first and third-grade classroom teacher before advancing to the role of Literacy Instructional Coach.
In 2016, Aja earned her Master's Degree in Education Administration and transitioned to Carmel Clay Schools, where she taught sixth and eighth-grade English Language Arts. Her dedication and expertise soon led her to the role of Instructional Coach at the middle school level. Since July 2017, Aja has been an Instructional Coach and Interventionist, pivotal in the professional development of teachers, administrators, and paraprofessionals. She works tirelessly to ensure that all students receive the highest quality instruction and have the opportunity to reach their full potential.
As an Instructional Coach, Aja is committed to individual coaching, planning, and delivering professional development at the building and district levels and implementing data-driven best practices. Her responsibilities include identifying students needing additional services, organizing and leading the Building Based Teaming committee, and utilizing an RTI-based model to provide tailored support for students at various instructional levels.
In addition to her professional endeavors, Aja enjoys a rich personal life with her husband, Kyle, and their three children: David (14), Zane (13), and Charlotte (11). The family shares their home with various pets, including seven chickens, five ducks, two dogs, one hamster, and a fish named Canvas.
Aja’s future aspirations include pursuing further leadership opportunities within the field of education. She is particularly interested in moving into an administrative role at the middle or elementary school level. She remains steadfast in her belief in the importance of educating the whole child and seeks innovative ways to support students and educators in their growth and development.
